MODENA AND TORINO, ITALY -

2014 marks the 100th anniversary of Maserati's founding, and there's no doubt that the iconic Italian sports car maker has had a chequered history to look back upon. In the present day however, the Trident are going from strength to strength, building upon the success that it has accumulated over the past decade.

To celebrate its landmark centenary, Maserati invited some of its customers and media friends to take in some of the historic moments and landmarks in its history, such as its founding in Bologna, its move down the road to its current base in Modena and eventual affiliation with fellow Italian marque Ferrari, and its present day expansion with its second factory in Torino.

Across three days, journalists were invited to join alongside dedicated owners who had come from around the world to converge in Italy for the celebration. More than 200 owners, arriving in cars ranging from classics like the 3500 GT, Merak, Bora, Sebring and Mistral, to modern day models like the Ghibli and Quattroporte, turned up for the party and rally across Italy. And to underline the hardcore dedication of these owners, there was even a group from China who drove their cars all the way from their home country to the event, traversing through Russia and Eastern Europe to reach Italy.

Enjoy our exclusive picture special as we bring you the lowdown from this historic celebration:

Day 1 ' Bologna-Modena

The story starts at Via de'Pepoli, which was the address in Bologna with which the Maserati brothers, Bindo, Carlo, Mario, Ettore, Ernesto and Alfieri, first set up their business, way back in 1914.

The small workshop has now been converted into a mini museum of sorts, showcasing various memorabilia from Maserati's storied history.

Following which, the party adjourned to the town of Modena, current home base of Maserati today, and visited the Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari (Museum of Enzo Ferrari's House), where the Maserati Centenary Exhibition was being held. The special showcase was curated by Adolfo Orsi Jr., grandson of Adolfo Orsi, who took control of the company from 1937 to 1968.

The day ended with a short parade through the streets of Modena's by all participants, onwards to dinner at Maserati's main factory and headquarters, which currently builds the GranTurismo and GranCabrio models.

Day 2 ' Modena'Cremona'Torino

The second day took participants on a drive from Modena to Torino, in a continuation of the participants' rally across Maserati's historic sites across Italy. The press pack tagged along in modern day Maserati cars.

The route included the same 10km stretch in the historic town of Cremona, where Italian driver Baconin Borzacchini took his 16-cylinder Maserati V4 race car and set a world speed record of 246.069km/h back in 1929.

Dinner was held at the majestic Reggia di Venaria palace in Torino, attended by Maserati chairman and CEO of the Fiat Chrysler Automotive Group, Sergio Marchionne

Day 3 - Torino

The last day saw participants take a guided tour of Maserati's newest factory in Torino, which currently builds the Quattroporte and Ghibli sports sedans.

Before ending with a Concours d'Elegance show in the Piazza San Carlo, right in the heart of Torino.

It was a fitting finale to a grand celebration, with the collection of Maseratis in the centre of carmaker's new home marking both a great history and a new start, and it will be interesting to see what the next 100 years hold for this iconic Italian sports car brand.
