Of course someone’s already modified a new Defender

By topgear, 05 June 2020

Ok, stop the timer. It’s happened. Someone’s modified a brand-new Land Rover Defender, not ten minutes (that’s what it feels like, anyway) since the company started building the damn things.

The Defenders you see above are the work of the Chelsea Truck Company (CTC), which is part of Kahn Design. And for the moment the modifications are mercifully subtle. The company’s ‘First Edition’ Defenders get massive 22-inch wheels, tinted windows and black/carbon trim on the grille, sump guard, rear bumper and doors.

For those wanting to change the look of their new Defender more… drastically, CTC tells us a “comprehensive styling package for the 2020 Defender will be available in due course”. A look on its website also reveals even BIGGER wheel options.

Meanwhile inside we’re promised a “special quilted and perforated soft leather interior”. No pictures, but sounds plush.

No changes to the powertrain just yet, but no doubt we’ll start seeing more rapid Defenders in due course. Possibly even from Land Rover itself, if/when it deploys its 5.0-litre supercharged V8. Defender SVR, anyone?
