The Acura NSX Type S will be the “best performing road-legal NSX ever”

By topgear, 04 August 2021

The Honda – or Acura, depending on where you are in the world – NSX is about to die. Which is a crying shame. But at least it’s going out with a bang.

To celebrate the final year of NSX production, Honda/Acura will make 350 NSX ‘Type S’. We’re promised the Type S, which will be properly revealed on 12 August during Monterey Car Week, will deliver “more power, quicker acceleration, sharper handling and a more emotional driving experience” than the standard car, and be the “best performing road-legal NSX ever”.

It will use an “enhanced version” of the regular NSX’s electrified 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6, and presumably come with a load of chassis/suspension tweaks.

Of the 350 cars Honda/Acura is planning to produce, 300 are earmarked for the USA. So they’ll all be Acuras. The rest are for Japan.

None for Europe – Honda’s UK operation told us: “For the European market, the Type S variant will not be available as sales of NSX ended during 2020. Honda will continue to explore sportscars and mobility products that offer the ‘joy of driving’ to our customers in the era of electrification and carbon neutrality.”

More as we have it.
