The MG Cyberster is a retro EV with 800km of range

This, internet, is the MG Cyberster concept. Good-looking thing, isn’t it? It’s reportedly MG’s “vision of the future”, and it’s set to make its debut in the real world at the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show.

While full details are currently limited, we do know that it will reportedly offer a 0-100km/h time of less than three seconds, and a Tesla Roadster-rivalling EV range of 800km. Yep, you read that correctly. 800km. In an electric car.

The two-seat sports concept draws a number of styling cues from the cutesy MG B Roadster, the beginner’s classic and a car we’re amazed MG has taken this long to make reference to.

First introduced in 1962, it remained in production for 18 years. Said design features include a slim grille design and round headlights, or ‘magic eyes’ in the words of MG. These open like human eyelids when the car wakes up, or in other words, ‘is started up’.

There’s also ‘laser belt’ LED strips running down the side of the car, in place of the MG B’s chrome strip, while the flattened ‘kamm tail’ rear end is LEDs galore, featuring a full-width lighting strip, illuminated diffuser, and two MINI Cooper-esque Union Jack flag designs in place of the rear lights. Wouldn’t look out of place in a disco hall, this thing.

No word yet from MG on whether it will put the Cyberster into production, but should the real-life version look anything like this, we’re all for it. We’ll let you know more as we get it…
