Launch of the new 2021 Audi A3 Sportback & A3 Sedan 1.5 TFSI in Singapore

Singapore - Last night saw the reveal of the brand new fourth-generation Audi A3, bringing about a whole new scope of innovative technologies, all cleverly packaged in a sleek new body shell.

Back when it launched, the A3 had a great combination of traits that enabled it to become Audi Singapore’s top-selling vehicle.

A continental badge, luxurious accoutrements and a smaller, less powerful engine.

All for the better though, because the 2014 model’s frugal 1.4-litre four-pot produced 125 horsepower, putting it nicely within Category A’s COE criteria.

Things are a little different with this fourth-generation model.

At launch, the new A3 Sedan and Sportback are only offered with a turbocharged 1.5-litre that produces 150 horsepower.

Latched onto the engine is a 48V mild hybrid system, which boosts low-end torque and improves engine response.

The new car is more stylish than the outgoing model, with plenty of angular contours in the bodywork that define the car’s silhouette, bringing it in line with Audi’s other larger offerings.

As per Audi's usual modus operandi, the iconic honeycomb grille takes centre stage on the front fascia of the new car.

Both the new A3 Sedan and A3 Sportback are wider and longer than their previous iterations, and considerably sportier looking.

The interior has been overhauled too, with a completely revised MMI system (Audi’s Multi Media Interface) and the brand’s signature virtual cockpit gauge cluster.

The new 10.1-inch MMI interface is almost fully touchscreen, save for a button on the centre console that doubles as a touch-sensitive volume control knob (like the original iPod).

Even the gear lever has been simplified, appearing more like a toggle switch rather than an actual stick.

Of course, here at TopGear Singapore, we’re eagerly anticipating the arrival of the upcoming Audi S3, and the top tier RS 3 Sportback. Those should prove a riot to drive!
