Performance and Accuracy in the Palm of Your Hand: Casio EDIFICE ECB-20

By topgearsingapore, 29 April 2021

Singapore - In this day and age, accuracy is of paramount importance in any and every aspect of our daily lives. Deadlines, meetings, projects, flights and in the motoring industry, lap times. Having a timepiece that ensures you are kept on top of everything is an ideal addition to any self-respecting person’s wardrobe. This is where Casio’s EDIFICE range comes in.

Like with all of Casio EDIFICE’s models, “Speed & Intelligence” are the key qualities of the brand’s product strategy. Precision, accuracy, usability and reliability in the toughest or most demanding of conditions. After all, we wouldn’t expect any less from a watch manufacturer that has been a sponsor and an official team partner of the Scuderia AlphaTauri Formula One team (formerly Scuderia Toro Rosso) since 2016.

The Casio ECB-20 shares many similarities with its predecessor, the ECB-10. Like the previous model, the robust case is finished in brushed metal, and fitted with a mineral glass crystal. The dial is a digital-analogue affair, with sword shaped hands that can be shifted to give the wearer an unobstructed view of the digital displays.

But the overall design of the watch has seen a massive overhaul. The newer watch adopts a more orthodox design with a round bezel that has minute markers at every 10-minute interval, unlike the ECB-10 which featured an octagonal bezel and horizontal lines across the dial. The ECB-20 has a rated water resistance of 10 BAR, or 100 meters, should you decide to take a leisurely dive in coastal waters. A key defining feature of the ECB-20 is a new tachometer-styled sub dial at 6 o-clock, which lends the watch a more motorsports-oriented flair.

Synonymous with EDIFICE’s ties in motorsports and Formula One, the ECB-20 is packed with immensely accurate time keeping capabilities. The stopwatch on the ECB-20 tracks lap times up to 1/1000 of a second in the first 60 minutes, and up to 1/10 second after the first hour. Good enough for tracking lap times on the F1 grid, most definitely good enough for the average user.

This high-performance chronograph has a plethora of other features too. Like the previous model, this ECB-20 is compatible with Casio’s EDIFICE Smartphone link app, which connects to the watch via Bluetooth to enable you to unlock the full capabilities of your timepiece.

Without the mobile link app, the ECB-20 is accurate to within ±15 seconds per month, which is rather stellar in the horology world. But with Casio’s EDIFICE mobile link app, the ECB-20’s automatic time zone correction will automatically adjust itself to ensure accurate time keeping in up to 38 time zones. Users can also calibrate the time on their ECB-20 manually with a push of a button. The watch also has 5 alarm settings, enabling you to keep up with your day in any of the aforementioned 38 time zones.

It also has a world time feature, which allows users to keep track of two separate time zones, taking into account daylight savings time in any continent or state in the world. The ECB-20 does it all for you. It even has a phone finder feature, which sends a chime to your phone if you misplace it.

In line with EDIFICE's 'Speed & Intelligence' brand motto, Casio Singapore is partnering with Top Gear Singapore for a little contest. We’re giving away 1 unit of the Casio EDIFICE ECB-20D to one of our faithful readers. To stand a chance, tell us your favourite feature of the Casio EDIFICE ECB-20 in the comments section.
