The all-new Mazda MX-5 was launched here on Thursday evening, making its local debut at Eurokars' new S$28m showroom which features the theme "Celebrate Driving"

At launch, the MX-5 is offered with a 2.0 litre engine with 160 horsepower and 200Nm of torque, with the 1.5 litre model arriving next year.

The new roadster is offered with two transmission options: A six-speed auto which does 0-100km/h in 8 seconds and tops out at 198km/h, as well as a six-speed manual which does 0-100km.h in 7.3 seconds and tops out at 214km/h.

Touted as the most compact MX-, it is more than 100 kilograms lighter than the model it replaces. Mazda claims that the chassis is stiffer and safer than previous models, while being lighter with improved noise vibration harshness (NVH) that improves the driving experience.

The weight-loss programme includes boosting the roadster with the latest technology such as Mazda's MZD Connect infotainment system as well as i-Activsense driving safety tech which consists of blind spot monitoring, adaptive lights and hill start assists.

The new MX-5 is offered with two interior choices: Black with red stitching, or Tan with beige stitching which Mazda relates to the classic British roadsters. Taking centre stage inside is the new MZD connect which features a 7-inch screen and commander control.
