Punching Above its Weight : 2020 Audi A4 [Advertising Feature]

EVOLUTION:

Talk about big shoes to fill. Since its inception in 1994, the Audi A4 has been the undisputed class leader in the compact executive segment when it comes to performance, refinement and tech.

From the performance-orientated longitudinal- mounted engines and quattro four-wheel drive system of the first-generation model to the use of the continuously variable transmission of the second, the A4 has always been at the forefront of technological performance.

Subsequent models featured the addition of the S tronic dual-clutch transmission, which combined the sporty characteristics of a manual gearbox with the advantages of an automatic and an advanced Electronic Stability Programme that kept the car in control and occupants safe under extreme driving conditions.

More recently, Audi’s award-wining Virtual Cockpit infotainment and Multi Media Interface systems in the fifth-generation model have pushed the boundaries of what was possible with in-car displays.

It also featured, for the first time, two different suspension settings with adaptive dampers: a more comfort-orientated one and a sportier setup with a lower ride height.

Every iteration of the Audi A4 has reinvented itself and revolutionised the segment with new, cutting edge tech, performance and safety features to ensure it punches far above its weight class.

Add dynamic styling, a premium ride and luxurious trim levels into the mix and you’ve got a car that’s always one step ahead of its rivals. No pressure for the newest version then...

LOOKS ARE EVERYTHING:

The new Audi A4 picks up where its predecessors left off by employing cutting edge technology usually reserved for bigger, more expensive cars to give drivers an unparalleled driving experience.

For starters, its dynamic new styling lends it a sportier and more muscular stance than ever before. Sexy new shoulder lines headlined by a bigger, bolder and more distinctive grill gives the car immense presence even before turning a wheel.

Inside, swathe yourself in a cabin adorned with anatomically-shaped, front seats (with memory settings for the driver) and an amazing array of trim and colours from two equipment lines for the exterior (basic and advanced) and three for the interior (basic, design selection and S line) to fully express yourself.

TECH A LOOK AT THIS:

The A4 has always been a tech pioneer and this latest version is no different. Begging to be seen and to see, the A4 sports LED lights at the front and rear as standard; with the advanced Matrix LED technology available as an option.

But the standout feature of the new A4 is arguably its all-new 10.1-inch touchscreen MMI display with its brilliant 1,540 x 720-pixel resolution. The system on the updated A4 is the first Audi model to be powered by MIB 3 hardware, which boasts a computing power that is no less than 10 times higher than the predecessor. The result is an even smoother user experience with more features to boot.

With capabilities such as voice and handwriting recognition, there is added convenience for the driver to use the MMI navigation plus to check for traffic updates, and point of interest information such as opening hours, user reviews and even parking availability.

Other useful features include weather forecasts as well as remote access to your car via the myAudi smartphone app.

All these are part of Audi’s new suite of digital services called Audi connect. The Audi smartphone interface brings together your smartphone and driving experiences and integrates them seamlessly.

Audi’s virtual cockpit is also a standard feature in the A4, and is now upgraded to the ‘plus’ version which includes a newer dynamic view, as well as more configurable items.

Never before has such so much tech been available as standard in a car in this class before.

ALL SHOW AND MORE GO:

Not all the A4’s tech can be seen though. Even so, you can bet they can be felt.

Underneath the pretty face sits numerous chassis tweaks and engines revisions that ensures the new A4 has the function to match its stunning form.

The A4 has long been regarded as the best all-rounder in its class with the perfect balance of sportiness and comfort and this latest version cements that position with two suspension setups (a 10mm or 23mm lower ride height) and adaptive dampers to bring out your preferred driving style.

Up front, both engine variants now feature a mild hybrid system (MHEV) which can save up to 0.3 litres per 100km.

This means drivers can now enjoy the efficiency of a small displacement engine with the performance and dynamism of a larger, more powerful car.
