This, ladies and gentlemen, is a series of drawings. Not of a moon buggy, but of a forthcoming Audi production car. One bearing a fully-electric drivetrain that you’ll be able to buy – gigantic grille and all – in a couple of years’ time.

It’s called the Audi Q4 e-tron, and it is but a mere glimpse of what Audi will showcase next month at the Geneva Motor Show. There’ll be an actual car there, not just a poster of the above.

It is, in Audi’s words, “the next stage of Audi electric mobility”, and if you’re struggling to get the pitch, it’s the smaller, ‘entry-level’ e-tron we first heard about at the tail end of last year. Maybe something along the lines of a BMW X4 rival size-wise, perhaps.

Drivetrain? Likely a detuned version of the one on the current production e-tron Audi.

So that’s a pair of electric motors – one on each axle – coupled to a slightly smaller battery than the big dog. Though it probably won’t offer the full 400-odd horsepower of that car, it won’t be slow. We suspect. EVs rarely are in this post G-Wiz age.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is about all we know so far. Stay tuned for the actual concept next month.
