Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class updated, receives MHEV tech

Singapore - The Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class get a mid-life update. Prices begin with the A180 Progressive Hatchback at $234,888, while the A180 Progressive Saloon and B180 Progressive start at $236,888.

The A-Class hatchbacks are offered in A 180 Progressive, A 200 AMG line, Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC and Mercedes-AMG 45 S 4MATIC+ variants. The saloon also gets the same variants, minus the range-topping A 45 S 4MATIC+ option. On the other hand, the only available B-Class for now, is the B 180 Progressive.

The A and B 180 Progressive cars also receive an equipment upgrade, which includes a reversing camera, USB package, LED headlights, Wireless Charging, Parking package, and a nappa leather-lined steering wheel. Additionally, the B-Class is also equipped with their Easy Pack tailgate.

The MBUX firmware has also been upgraded, with its voice assistant capable of dialogue learning. Mercedes-Benz says that certain actions can now be triggered without the need for the activation phrase “Hey Mercedes''. To front the MBUX, the A-Class receives twin 10.25-inch displays which take centre-stage on the dashboard, while the B-Class’ second 10.25-inch display is offered as an option.

Under the bonnet, both the 180 and 200 1332cc powertrains (which are primarily the same), and the A35 cars, receive new 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. The immediate noticeable gain comes from a 10kW boost delivered via the belt-driven starter-generator (RSG). Other benefits include smoother restarting of the engine, and an improvement on economy. The latter through the car’s ability to coast, with the engine switched-off when cruising.

Updates in safety assistance systems for the cars include an upgrade to the Driver Assistance Package, and better control of the Lane Keeping Assist, through the Active Steering Control.
