The Ferrari 812 Competizione and Aperta have sold out

Ferrari will build just 999 examples of the wild new 812 Competizione, and even fewer of its sister car, the Competizione ‘Aperta’ – just 599 of those will be built.

And, to literally nobody’s surprise, both models have sold out. So, welcome to the two new supernaturally powerful, naturally-aspirated V12 Ferraris you can’t actually buy.

“We contacted our clients before, giving them the right of first refusal,” explains Ferrari’s chief marketing and commercial officer Enrico Galliera, “and of course the reaction has been incredible.

“Many clients are asking for the car, but unfortunately we cannot satisfy all the requests,” he added. He did note the price: €499,000 (in Italy) for the 812 Competizione, and €578,000 for the 812 Competizione Aperta.

Deliveries of the coupe will commence in the first quarter of 2022, with Aperta deliveries beginning later in the year, in Q4. “It’s a special edition of the 812, but it’s also limited,” Galliera added on why both cars are ‘limited series’.

“This is part of our tradition, because every single versione speciale of the V12 has always been limited. The reason is we want to offer to our clients something that remains extremely exclusive.

“It’s true, we have much higher demand for this car, and one of my jobs is to explain to other important members of the ‘family’ why we are not able to satisfy all the demand.

“But we think this should remain something that represents the pinnacle of the offer of Ferrari, and in that perspective it should be limited,” he added.

And what a pinnacle it is: this naturally-aspirated V12 Ferrari revs to an astonishing 9,500rpm – the highest-revving Ferrari road engine ever built – and is able to lap Fiorano in 1m 20s. That’s a full 1.5s quicker than the already super fast, erm, 812 Superfast.
