Well that didn’t take long. Brabus has already got its hands on – and applied its typical modifications to – a new G-Wagen. Sorry, G-Class.

Beneath the skirts, spoilers and so-on this is a regular G 500 – not a G 63 – with the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 chipped from 420hp to 500hp. 0-100km/h takes 5.7secs, and the top speed is limited to 210km/h. There’s also a stainless-steel active exhaust with a quiet “Coming Home” mode.

That’s about it for technical mods – the rest are aesthetic. The bumpers are new (the front one apparently reduces lift at speed), there’s a bonnet scoop, spoiler, massive 23-inch alloy wheels and a carbonfibre light-bar. Inside it’s the usual mix of Alcantara, leather and so-on. You can spec whatever and Brabus will do it.

Brabus isn’t talking money, but there’s no way these mods come cheap. So if you want a shoutier, faster G-Class, wouldn’t you just buy an AMG G 63 and be done with it?
