That’s because this video contains footage of the Rimac C_Two hypercar crashing. A lot. Five times, in fact. It’s all a part of the C_Two’s homologation process to ensure it’ll be safe and road-legal across the globe. Still, five times.
“To be sure that the car is functioning as intended, physical tests need to be in perfect correlation with the simulations,” Rimac explained. Indeed, this crash testing is a small part of a much bigger process involving aforementioned simulations in the virtual world, component tests, prototype validations and so forth.
Then comes the boom. No lie, it’s never easy watching a super-rare, very desirable 1,887bhp self-driving electric hypercar being squished against some very solid things. So let’s take a moment to remind ourselves about all the nice things the C_Two promises.
415km/h, for a start, thanks to four electric motors kicking out 1,914hp and 2,300Nm of torque. There’s a pair of single-speed gearboxes on each of the front wheel motors, and twin-speed gearboxes on each of the rear motors.
Rimac reckons on 0-100km/h in a frankly terrifying 1.97s, 0-160km/h in 4.3s, a quarter mile time of 9.1s and 0-300km/h in 11.8s. Any way you cut it, this thing is off-the-scale quick. There’s a plethora of aero too, to make sure it’s no drag-strip junkie and can handle the odd corner here and there.
