Singapore - We can recall the last Maserati that really got us excited... it was the MC12, a gorgeous V12-engined racing homologation 'supe' from the mid-2000s that wasn't just 'big' in road presence, but also 'big' in physical proportions.
The new MC20 may not be as physically daunting as its racing homologation predecessor, but it creates a striking impression. The S$748k (sans COE and options) lean and lithe sporting machine that is the MC20 is intended to usher in a new design and technical era for Maserati.
Mr. Nick Syn, Director of Tridente Automobili Pte Ltd, the official Maserati importer in Singapore, said “The MC20 simultaneously embodies a century of passion, innovation, performance and style, while heralding a bright new future for the Maserati brand. In the wake of a very successful global launch in September last year, the MC20 has ignited keen interest amongst Maserati aficionados in Singapore. We are delighted to have the opportunity to give customers, and especially our patient depositors, a sense of what the MC20 is all about.”
Open the dramatic 'butterfly' doors and you're greeted by the maquette's well-appointed and sumptuously Alcantara-clad cabin.
We'd have preferred a stronger blue interior, but the display car only features tasteful blue accents in a predominantly all-black interior (confession time: we've loved Maserati's blue Alcantara vibe since the time of the GranSport MC Victory).
More importantly, there's very little in the way of frippery to detract from the task of driving.
In the midship position sits a turbo'd 2.9-litre V6 'Nettuno' engine that delivers 630hp, which will see the MC20 demolish the 0-100km/h sprint time in under 3secs on its way to its >325km/h top speed.
The Maserati MC20 maquette is available for private viewing from 29 May to 18 June 2021 in the Maserati Singapore showroom. Due to covid restrictions, viewing is strictly by appointment only. For more information, please contact the Maserati showroom at 6472 2236.
